I am pleased to announce the re-printing of Pieces of Eight: The Monetary Powers and Disabilities of the United States Constitution by Edwin Vieira. This is a special run of the 2002 revised edition of the two-volume, 1,700+ page study of American monetary law and history that has been out of print and virtually unavailable (except at scalpers’ prices) since 2006. This reprinting, which is being supported by the GoldMoney Foundation, is now underway at RR Donnelley & Sons Company, one of the premier printers in the United States. Books are only available directly from Edwin, who will arrange for delivery to each buyer when the books are ready around mid-January 2011.
Those who have had an opportunity to peruse this book know that there is nothing equivalent on the market, and likely never will be again. And those who have not seen it will find it to be as comprehensive and complete a study of money and banking in the United States as could be desired by anyone who wants to inform himself as to how sound money and honest banking were subverted and then largely eliminated in the United States, and what might be done to return America to her constitutional roots.
I wrote a review of Pieces of Eight when it was first published several years ago, and I remain just as enthusiastic about this book today. It is a great addition to anyone’s library.
I have purchased a copy for my own personal library to add to my collection of essential reading on monetary history. I have also purchased 50 copies in order to donate one to the Supreme Court Library in each of the States.
If, like me, you wish to purchase copies to donate (for example, to a library in the city where you live or a college alma mater), please inform Edwin of your plans so that he can coordinate donations to avoid duplication, thereby ensuring that this limited run has the greatest possible reach. If you wish to make a donation but are not sure which institution would most benefit from your generosity, Edwin can send the book on your behalf to a worthy library of his choosing.

In a preface to this new special reprinting, I wrote that the solution to the monetary and banking crises now sweeping unchecked across the globe lies in the return to economically sound and politically honest money that only gold and silver make possible. Therefore, under today’s dire circumstances, nothing could be more necessary than to make Edwin Vieira’s truly exceptional scholarship – already recognized worldwide as an authoritative source on the principles of sound money – available to as wide an audience as possible, in the anticipation that his insights will help form the policies that need to be adopted to secure the future of a free and prosperous society in America, and even throughout the world. To promote such a society is a major aspiration and goal of the GoldMoney Foundation, a not-for-profit educational organization that focuses upon the unique, inimitable usefulness of gold and silver as money.
